Our thanks must go to all those who so generously donated prizes for our Grand Draw this year. The draw was made on the 1st October and raised a total of £1, 147.00, which will go towards our continuing support of the hospital social workers. There is an increased demand on the social workers list owing to the opening of the new wards in the hospital. The neurological patients from Frenchay and the renal patients from Southmead are now treated in the Children’s Hospital, so all the paediatric services are under one roof of the Bristol Children’s Hospital.
On Sunday, 28th September we held a children’s party to help raise funds for the Guild. We were celebrating 14 years of our supporting POD, who provide entertainment on the wards in the hospital. Colin Dymond and Snot the Dragon, who put in regular appearances at the hospital, came to entertain us all – parents and children alike. Colin makes magic and is an enchanter, with his dragon, his naughty shaggy dog and his parrot. One mother said of the party ‘ My boys adored the party! They couldn’t stop talking about it!’
Our thanks go to Colin and also to Baker Ross who generously donated materials for two craft tables at the party. Thank you to all who came to support the Guild and the work it does for the hospital. If you would like to see Snot the Dragon you can contact Colin at aceofdiamonds.co.uk.
Last Friday, The Guild of Friends of the Bristol Royal Children’s Hospital committee came together for one of our favourite annual activities, making posies for Mothers Day. Traditionally, every year, The Guild of Friends produces 100 or more fresh flower Mothering Sunday posies. We fill empty baby milk bottles with flowers, deliver them to the hospital and then every child who is currently resident at the hospital has a little posy of flowers to give their mother on Sunday.
Our next fundraising event will be a family tea party featuring the POD magicians. Bring your children along for a wonderful afternoon of entertainment and delicious cakes while raising money for a great cause. The date and ticket information about this event will follow shortly, so please check back soon for more details.
'The contribution of the Guild of Friends has been huge over the years and we are very grateful for their continued support'
